I had chosen 28 count linen, because my eyes are not as they used to be...but last night I had a crazy idea: what if I would make my Beatrix in the linen I inherited from my late dad's side of the family? That linen was made by my great great great grandmother. When I say made I mean not only woven, but cultivating the linen plants, pick them up, taken the linen from them, spun the flax and woven it on the home loom, which I still remember seeing there in my grandparents time. After that the dress maker, who used to go to the client's, tailored the bed sheets and towels and lastly monogramed by Maria for her dowery.
It struck me, these girls/young ladies from 2 different countries and cultures, but living in the same time and connected by their handwork.
Well, my idea is crazy because the count I made is more or less 45!!! Just when an idea gets into my stubborn head it's difficult for me to put it aside. Of course it will take much longer, because I have to embroider under my magnifying glass - lamp, but it will be worth the effort.
I'm attatching 3 pics: 1-the monogram crossstitched by my great great great grandmother from the bed sheet I took the material for my Beatrix; 2-testing the linen with my silk and 3-some more silk shades I added for my sampler.
Until the 1. January and make sure you enter the New Year with your right foot.
