Private or public? Everybody needs to respond please.

Hello all. It has come to my attention that someone is not happy with me making this blog private so that only our members can read it and therefore non members, including hackers and spammers, cannot. I did this for our safety but I am happy to change it back to "public" if this is what you prefer. I really don't mind eitherway. So please leave a comment saying either "public" or "private" and I will tally up the responses at the end of the month and either keep it or change it back.

Happy stitching!
Hazelxx

I don't mind either way, but I would hate to see it hacked or spammed!!
But then it is a shame for those who like to pop over and have a nosey at our progress.
I am afraid I may sit on the fence with this and go with the majority, Sorry I know not much help am I

I am with Rachael, I don't mind either way...I will go with the majority!

I don't mind either way...I will go with the majority also.

It is such a shame isn't it? Having it open to the public may be a source of inspiration for some people - on the other hand - who needs any more spam?

Maybe we should reopen and see what happens. If we get the feeling that someone is hacking we can pull it off for good!

Don't care either way but I wouldn't be concerned because a few people don't like it. There's plenty of other blogs to look at and you shouldn't be bothered with all this Hazel. Whatever is easiest for you!

You know my feelings on this sweetie, if people want to show their work off they also have their own blog it's a shame blogger can't sort out these people, I would also like to say what a great job you are doing as I know what a hectic life you have sometimes and I am personally very grateful to you for setting up this blog

I would prefer to keep it public, although I absolutely loathe the spamming. I have all comments on my blog directed to my e-mail account just to avoid spamming in the comment section, but I realise that would mean *more* work for you, and you have plenty to do already! Therefore I think you should do what you think is best. We are all more than happy to follow your lead :o)

I don't mind either way, I personally love reading all the stitchy blogs that are out there and find them an inspiration so it would be a great shame to have this one closed....perhaps like Deb suggested we could open it again and see from there what happens regarding spam.Ultimately (sp?) it's your choice Hazel whichever makes life easier for you :)

I dont mind either way, whatever is easier for you Hazel.

I show my updates on my own blog too.

If hackers and spammers are going to be a problem ( which they clearly are) then I would prefer it to be kept private but I will go with whatever the majority decide. I know some people might not agree with it but if we have our own blogs we show our progress on those anyway. I am going to email you again to see if I can help out.

IMO it is best to lean on safety. I concur with you that you have no other choice other than to make this blog private.

Thank you so much Hazel for all your efforts.

I would like our blog to be open, but if others would rather keep it closed I would be ok with that. I don't have my own blog, but I do belong to Let's Stitch. I enjoy getting to see all the wonderful stitching out there and would hate for bad experiences to ruin that. Also my sister Tish is a member of our group, but she doesn't blog so I post for her. Now she is unable to check out all the progress. I think there will be disappointment no matter which way we go. Hazel, I'll trust your judgment.

I agree with Donna TN that no matter which way you go there will be disappointment. First let me clarify that I enjoy surfing stitching blogs and getting ideas even if I don't understand the language. And I follow loads. With that said, Hazel you started this out of love for cross stitch, SALs, Beatrix Potter etc and if the spamming has made this a chore instead of a pleasure then I say keep it private. Maxine had a good idea of making it public again to see if the spamming will continue.

Whatever you decide is fine with me Hazel. I know it doesn't look like we are all being much help! But both ways have their pros and cons. Please do whatever makes you most comfortable and we will all be fine with that.

Hi Hazel, I think whatever makes it easier for you to manage, it takes time to maintain a blog like this and that's not easy if it's being maliciously attacked. It is nice to be open but if there are problems then don't fret about making it private. You can't please all the people all of the time as they say!

I like it public because one of the reasons I like to post my stitching online is more people see it than would ever see it on my walls at home (or in my stitching bag!) but if spammers are a problem, make it a private blog. It's such a shame mean people and commercial interests have to ruin what could be a nice, open, global community though, isn't it?

"Public" is my preference but either way is fine. Majority rules.

My only "issue" with it being private is that updates don't show up in a reader, so I tend to forget to check this blog.

Having said that, I totally agree with everyone else that it's whatever is easiest for you Hazel, so I'm happy to go with whatever you decide :)

Hi Hazel -- I agree with the majority of the comments -- whichever way is easiest for you. But that said, I do occasionally like to check the blog from work -- and always have trouble remembering my sign-in, etc. Bottom line -- whichever you think is best is fine with me. I will keep working away on Miss Potter.

Thanks.

Hazel,
I agree with Jeanne of Willow Tree that it should be whatever is easiest for you. She makes an excellent point that there are tons of other blogs for people to surf.

I don't mind either way either...although I was sharing the link with friends whenever one of our participants posted some wonderful progress. Of course, my own progress can be seen at my own blog...

But it is sad to go into hiding because of hackers...

Yeah, I'm being wishy washy...

I don't really have an opinion either way. :-)

I don't mind either way - whichever makes life easier for you Hazel.

It's very nice that we are now public again, but if the spammer come's back please do go private.
Thank you for all the work!

I would choose whichever is easiest for you, Hazel. Other than that, I like the privacy, myself. Hugs, Deb
PS: My computer is gone, I'm writing from my DD's today. Will get my progress pictured asap.
