Annemarie's floss toss and progress

This is my first post on this blog, and it very nearly didn't happen at all. I had the worst time finding the right fabric and floss for this project. I wanted it to be good, because I've had this chart in my possession since it was published by Needleprint a couple of years ago and I was determined to make it one of my special projects. This SAL was the perfect excuse to start, and hopefully finish, it before I die of old age.
After about eight false starts I found what I think is the perfect colour combination for this sampler: I'm stitching this on white 32 count linen, with the DMC linen thread collection. If you put these linen threads together, it's like looking at a Beatrix Potter drawing. Interestingly, the 'normal' DMC equivalents have a very different look about them. Anyway, I'm stitching this one thread over two, and here's my first progress pic:

You like? I do. One question though, if you would be so kind as to help me out. Although the entire linen collection looks good with all the threads together, I'm leaning towards using only the pinks, blues and browns, as you see them at the top of my picture, rather than using all of the colours. What do you think? Shall I use them all, including the greens and the creams, or should I stick to the pinks, blues and browns?

Before I go, I just wanted to say all of your work is incredibly inspiring and gorgeous. Keep up the good work!

I like your choices of the pinks blues, and browns; having the whole collection seems like it could get too busy. The colors you chose actually remind me a lot of the Ann Trump Ackworth sampler, which is pretty stunning. (http://www.emlis.com/quaker.htm)

That is going to be so gorgeous Annemarie! :) I'm a bit of a green fan myself, so I would vote for the greens and creams as well, but that's just me ;)

Annemarie,

It looks beautiful! I like the colors you've chosen.

I'm anxiously awaiting my linen (32 ct Desert Sand) in the mail and then I can start this.

I would say move on to the next color as it strikes you...this could be very random, but the results could be very good...I do tend towards the pink, mauves and greens...so I think it depends what mood you're in and what looks good to you...

Annemarie..
I'm also using different colours. So far I have pink, brown and I'm going to use green and blue as well.
i haven't done a sampler in different colours before but I must say they look just as striking as one done in just one colour.i will try to get a picture up tomorrow to show you!

The linen threads are very pretty. I like all the colors, but I like variety. I would just see how it goes. If you think that a cream or green would work on a motif, than you can try it.

My vote would be to stick with the pinks, blues and browns. It looks really nice so far and I think these colors look good together.

Wow what an interesting choice! I'm a bit rubbish when it comes to colours but I really like all of them together. I am a bit of a rainbow girl though. xx

Hi Annemarie, I see what you mean about the colors reminding you of BP artwork. I like Jacqueline's advice ... pick the next color as it strikes you, and you may find yourself choosing a wider variety of colors. Very lovely choice!

It's been a while since you posted this, so I am wondering what you chose? I like both choices, but I think just the pinks, blues and browns would look gorgeous.
